La carne es el pilar de la dieta sudafricana, aunque la gastronomía es variada según cada etnia. Los sudafricanos aman las barbacoas, o braais, y los filetes cocinados a la parrilla de forma lenta con salchichas picantes (berewors) cocinadas al carbón. También muchos disfrutan de la carne seca llamada bilton o guiso de maíz con carne y vegetales.
