Según las Naciones Unidas, las tres cuartas partes de los principales conflictos del mundo tienen su origen en diferencias culturales. Aprender a sobrepasar las diferencias es urgente y necesario para un mundo más pacífico, igualitario y sostenible.

Las escuelas y los educadores juegan un papel fundamental para equipar a los jóvenes para que respeten la diversidad, adopten la inclusión y aprendan a vivir y trabajar juntos. Para celebrar el Día Mundial de la Diversidad Cultural para el Diálogo y el Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas, que se celebra el 21 de mayo de cada año, AFS se complace en compartir un plan de lecciones prácticas para ayudar a educadores y educadoras de secundaria a fomentar habilidades como la curiosidad y la empatía, ambas consideradas cruciales para la competencia global e intercultural, en sus estudiantes.

Este plan de lecciones,  llamado “Comenzar a superar las diferencias y comprender las desigualdades”, se enfoca en crear conciencia sobre las identidades sociales y culturales, también presenta y discute estrategias para abordar los estereotipos y la discriminación, y alienta a los y las estudiantes a comenzar a superar las diferencias culturales en su vida diaria. Proporciona instrucciones y consejos para entregarlo tanto en línea como en persona.

Este recurso en inglés es parte del plan de estudios modular y flexible AFS Effect+ que incluye objetivos de aprendizaje, guías de discusión, instrucciones paso a paso y hojas de actividades para enseñar sobre Ciudadanía Global Activa y los ODS a estudiantes de enseñanza media. Actualmente el programa se  está probando con 150 educadores y educadoras en Brasil, Colombia y Nueva Zelanda.

El kit de herramientas Effect + para educadores y educadoras estará disponible en agosto de 2021.
